Alpe Colle and the surrounding area: a view of the lake amidst books and nature

The first of the two days in the mountains above Verbania begins at a special place: the Alpe Colle bookstore. Driven by a young bookseller’s passion, the challenge arose to create Italy’s first mountain pasture bookstore—a cultural outpost in an area rich in nature and history, just a stone’s throw from Lake Maggiore.

The hike will take us past the panoramic peaks of Monte Spalavera and Monte Bavarione, where we’ll also see historical remnants of the Cadorna Line. A day spent among forests, flower-filled meadows, views of the lake…and books! Our hike will actually start right at the Alpe Colle bookstore, where, once we return, we’ll present the CleanAlp project over a snack and a page from a mountain book.

Excursion details:

‍· Departure: Alpe Colle Bookstore (https://maps.app.goo.gl/sUEAg9thqNHADoDV6)

· Difficulty: E – Elevation gain: approx. 680 m – Distance: approx. 11 km round trip

· Meeting point: 9:30 a.m. at the Alpe Colle Bookstore

·   Return to the cars: Around 4:00 p.m., followed by a presentation titled “Of Mountains, Wonders, and Underwear” by Franco Borgogno and Giulia Marangoni

Required equipment: technical layered hiking clothing, ankle-high hiking boots, hat, sunglasses. In your backpack: spare T-shirt, sunscreen, rain jacket, water bottle, packed lunch.
